How to know what exhibition stand size you’ll need

exhibition stand

Getting ready to attend a trade show can be difficult. There’s a lot to figure out, from how you’re going to prepare your team for the big day to what kind of support material you should bring with you. Working out what kind of exhibition stand you should use is another important consideration, and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Importantly, you need one that’s the right size – here’s how to know how big it should be.

What do you want the stand to do?

First, you need to think about what purpose the stand is actually going to serve. You shouldn’t just be getting one made for the sake of it – the stand needs to serve a clear purpose, creating a space that’s perfect for you to represent your business.

If you want to welcome people into the stand and have a quiet space to speak with them, your stand will need to be a lot bigger than if you’re just planning on using it to hand out leaflets to visitors and have a casual chat. An exhibition stand design specialist such as Focal Exhibitions will be able to help you work out what you want to achieve, and how the stand can support that process.

How much space do you have?

You might have big dreams of creating a large hall inside your exhibition stand, but in most cases, you will have limited space at the trade show. If you’re not sure how much space you have to work with, you need to reach out to the organisers and ask them what you’re working with. This needs to be done early on – you can’t start with the rest of the design process until you know the rest of your limitations.

Go modular

Different trade shows will also be able to provide you with different amounts of space. Instead of having multiple different complete stands, if you use a modular design, you’ll be able to add parts on when needed, and take them off when you don’t have room. Your exhibition stand designer will likely be able to advise you here, and it’s worth picking an option with experience making modular designs.

Is less more?

In some cases, you might find that less can be more. If you don’t expect to have heaps of people coming through your stand, then having an oversized presence might not have the intended effect.

It’s important to think about how the space will be filled out – try to gain some kind of understanding of how many people will be at the trade show, and how many you can expect to be dealing with at any one time. See if you can find videos and quantitative data on prior years so that you at least have something to go off of.

There are obviously a lot of different factors that will go into determining the right size for your exhibition stand. By taking the factors above into consideration, and working with an experienced designer, you should be able to come up with an option that’s perfect for your needs.
