Top Software Development Trends for 2022

Software Development Trends

Every new year brings something new to every area, especially technology. New platforms, languages, frameworks, and devices replace old ones. It is not necessary to use every new trend, because new does not always mean “better”. While working with a software development company, make sure that its developers keep up with the latest trends like in Redwerk.

In this article, we will tell you about the innovations in web development. Although it looks complicated, it is a trend, so you should at least make sure you know what some of the words mean.

1. Progressive Web App

This is a new, more convenient, and lightweight application format. PWAs work like native mobile apps, but are actually websites. At the same time, according to research, PWAs have a 36% higher conversion rate than native applications.

When using a PWA, there are several key advantages:

  • applications load instantly;
  • take up less memory;
  • they do not need to be updated and downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store;
  • work on any devices (even on outdated PCs).

As the number of mobile users increases every day, this trend will continue to grow in the future.

2. Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (or IoT) is a network of interconnected devices that require little or no user action to perform operations and obtain useful results. With around 30 billion Internet-enabled devices predicted to be around 2023 according to Statista, we can expect to see some demand next year for solutions that can improve the security of automated IoT interactions.

The growth potential of IoT is another aspect we should be looking at in 2022. The main reason for the existence and development of the “Internet of Things” is its ability to facilitate the everyday life of a person. Thanks to payment automation, smart home, and smart city technology, and the development of the eHealth environment, we can generally be less overwhelmed by routine tasks and invest our cognitive resources in more complex ones.

3. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

The idea is to speed up page performance and reduce the risk of user abandonment. AMP technology is a bit similar to PWA. The difference is that the pages are speeded up thanks to an open-source plugin recently developed by Twitter and Google. AMP is optimized pages that can run fast and have a simplified yet user-friendly design with basic features. These pages are also mobile-friendly and their content is always readable.

While we have 5G internet technology and most brands are choosing to develop their own apps to improve any user experience, the AMP plugin gives companies the opportunity to save on UX costs and reach users at any internet speed. As a result, we will see smaller and niche products successfully compete with the huge market leaders.

4. A single-page application (SPA)

A SPA application is an Internet application consisting of a single HTML document. When switching between SPA tabs, only the requested content is loaded. Static blocks (such as the header and sidebar) are not reloaded. With such an architecture, content loads faster, and the user experience can be compared to full-fledged applications.

Such pages as Gmail, Google Drive, or Google Maps, as well as social media platforms such as Facebook, are similar. Current observation of web trends makes it clear that in the future most functional websites will be built using SPA.

Why do developers in 2022 prefer the SPA approach? SPAs have a better chance of keeping users’ attention because this method works quickly – SPAs give users instant feedback (compared to conventional sites with a white screen before the page is fully loaded). Single-page sites also use less power and can run without server-side code at all (API technology).

5. Voice Search Optimization

Voice search is one of the most significant examples of technology that was introduced more than a decade ago. In 2020, people prefer to spend less time typing commands because devices could understand them clearly. That’s why most companies are now trying to optimize their physical and digital products for voice search and voice commands.

The latest in web development is standalone voice-activated devices and voice optimization for mainstream websites and apps. Strengthening AI, and optimizing voice search benefits both end users and owners. First, it saves time and allows the user to order more (online stores and services). Secondly, the technology is multitasking. Third, it gains additional loyalty from users because it helps them cope with their routine. Finally, voice usage is a powerful source of user behavior analysis.
