Ben Powell, a Longborough University graduate, created Orbit, a small social robot that helps children with autism to develop social skills through storytelling and physical touch. According to a Longborough University press release Powell, who was diagnosed with mild, high-functioning autism, created Orbit to help children “see emotions in context” and learn social skills on their own.
Powell stated in the release that Orbit can be given a personality to help children empathize and build a relationship with it.
